52 weeks and a Mason Jar Savings Plan

With planning a trip to Europe next summer I have been doing a lot of research on saving for travel. Many websites and travel blogs have given so many great ideas which I plan on doing. My first step in saving for travel is following a great idea I saw on Pinterest.

This plan is called the 52 week savings plan. Each week you save a certain amount of $ based on what number week you are on. Week # 1 is $1 , Week # 2 is $2 , Week # 3 is $3, and so on. At the end of the 52 weeks you will have saved $1,378.

In order to feel motivated, I bought a cheap mason jar and covered it in travel stickers that I bought at Michaels. This is where I have been saving my money each week. This is a quick and easy motivational project that makes saving money fun and reminds you what your saving it for!

Sounds easy right?  The hard part is leaving the money in the jar and not spending it!

The Hundred Foot Journey- Inspiring Love, Travel, and Following your Dreams

“There are many points in life when we cannot see what awaits us around the corner, and it is precisely at such times, when our path forward is unclear, that we must bravely keep our nerve, resolutely putting one foot before the other as we march blindly into the dark.”
― Richard C. Morais, The Hundred-Foot Journey

Last night I had an awakening of the soul. For months I have seen the commercials for the movie “The Hundred – Food Journey” based on the book by Richard C. Morais. Instantly I was interested to see this movie. This has been the best movie I have seen in a very long time!

The Hundred Foot Journey was full of laughter, tears, and real emotion. The audience was able to feel what the actors felt in that very moment. We watch as Hassan, a young cook for his family restaurant is given the opportunity to fulfill his true potential. He is given the right training to become a renowned chef in a top restaurant. He not only cooks, he creates. He creates meals, taste, the spice of life, and a food experience like no other. He looks at food as more than just something we eat, he looks at food as memories.

This movie has awakened an interest to travel to the beautiful countryside in France and to follow those dreams that we can’t go a day without thinking about, whatever they may be.

This is a movie I will definitely be seeing again.

“Not All Who Wander are Lost”- J.R.R. Tolkien

This is one of my favorite quotes. It inspires me to travel, live, and experience. 7 years ago I took a leap of faith, full of nerves to study abroad in Ireland. I had no idea how much it would truly change my life. I learned so much about myself and grew a love of Ireland and a love of traveling. This opened my craving to travel more which led me to travel around Europe as well as travel to Japan.

As a teacher I  feel extremely lucky to have the summers off. Each summer since I have studied abroad I have wanted to go back to Ireland but the timing never was financially right. My journey is starting now, a year early.

This is my 1 year to save for an amazing summer trip traveling around Ireland.
